Heatwave Tips for Niqabis
Enquiry: How do I get around and still maintain my modesty during a heatwave? Advice: 1⃣. Stay home if you can If you don't need to be out and about, your home is the best place to stay cool and comfortable. - Keep curtains or blinds closed during the hottest parts of the day. - Open windows when the air outside is cooler. - Use fans where possible. - Stay well hydrated throughout the day. - Avoid unnecessary physical exertion during peak heat hours. 2⃣. If you do need to go out, here are some practical tips a. Carry cold water with you Invest in a good insulated water bottle, such as a Stanley tumbler or similar. Fill it with ice and cold water before leaving home so you can stay hydrated throughout the day. b. Reassess your layers Do you really need all those layers? If your outer garment already fulfils the requirements of hijab Shar'ee, it may not matter as much what is underneath. Heavy underlayers, thick leggings, tights, or multiple garments can trap heat and make the weather much harder to manage. Choose lightweight, breathable fabrics where possible. c. Choose heat-friendly fabrics Natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, and lightweight blends generally allow better airflow than synthetic materials. Lighter colours can also help reflect sunlight rather than absorb it. d. Consider palm-cooling devices Research has shown that cooling the palms can help lower perceived body temperature and improve comfort. Small palm-cooling devices may be worth exploring and can often be worn discreetly beneath gloves. e. Look into cooling vests Cooling vests are becoming increasingly popular among athletes, outdoor workers, and those exposed to extreme heat. To give an example, Adidas recently introduced its CLIMACOOL system, which is being used in preparation for the 2026 World Cup. The system includes: - A frozen cooling vest - An insulating outer jacket - Cooling overshoes The aim is to reduce core and skin temperature before activity and aid recovery afterwards. Consumer versions of cooling vests are also available and may be useful for those who need to spend extended periods outdoors. f. Plan your journeys wisely - Travel early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are lower. - Seek shaded routes where possible. - Switch on the air conditioning or open the windows while travelling in the car. - Limit the amount of time spent standing in direct sunlight. - Take regular breaks indoors if you're out for long periods. g. Use cooling accessories Cooling towels, neck wraps, portable fans, and misting sprays can all make a noticeable difference without affecting your modest dress. May Allah grant immense reward to our niqabi sisters who remain steadfast upon modesty. یَـا شمسُ كُونِی بَرۡدࣰا وَسَلَامًا عَلَى المسلمين Āmīn. https://t.me/madrasatunaa/403
