Difficulties Finding Sharī’ah Compliant Clothing For Kids

Questioner: May Allāh reward you, Your Eminence. This questioner asks: Children's clothing with images has become so widespread that we can hardly find clothes for our children without these images. Also, some products, such as canned goods, diapers, and others, often contain images, and we bring these items into our homes. The question is: What is the ruling on purchasing and bringing these items into the home, given that it is difficult to avoid? Sheikh Salih Al-Fawzan ḥafidhahullāh: Regarding clothing, there are indeed clothes available that do not have images on them. The questioner’s statement that they cannot find such clothes is incorrect; there are options available. For example, one can purchase fabric and have it tailored. It is not necessary to buy ready-made garments. It is not permissible to purchase clothing that contains images. As for the images on products, these are debased, and your intention is not to purchase the image but the product itself. You will dispose the packaging once you are done with it. If, however, you wish to reuse the packaging, then deface or remove the image before doing so.
