Loving The Poor - A True Manifestation Of Loving For The Sake Of Allāh

The Prophet ﷺ supplicated: ((اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ فِعْلَ الخَيْرَاتِ، وَتَرْكَ المُنْكَرَاتِ، وَحُبَّ المَسَاكِينِ، وَأَنْ تَغْفِرَ لِي وَتَرْحَمَنِي، وَإِذَا أَرَدْتَ فِتْنَةً فِي قَوْمٍ فَتَوَفَّنِي غَيْرَ مَفْتُونٍ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ حُبَّكَ وَحُبَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّكَ، وَحُبَّ عَمَلٍ يُقَرِّبُ إِلَى حُبِّكَ)). "O Allah! I ask of you for good actions, avoiding evil, LOVING THE POOR, and that You forgive me, and have mercy upon me. And if You Wish to trial people, then take me without being trialled. I ask You for Your love, the love of whomever You love, and the love of the deeds that bring one nearer to Your love.'" [رواه الترمذي (3235) من حديث معاذ بن جبل، وقال: " هذا حديث حسن صحيح. سألت محمد بن إسماعيل، عن هذا الحديث، فقال: هذا حديث حسن صحيح] Ibn Rajab raḥimahullāh explained: «والمقصود أن حب المساكين أصل الحب في الله تعالى؛ لأن المساكين ليس عندهم من الدنيا ما يوجب محبتهم لأجله، فلا يحبون إلا لله عز وجل و ( الحب في الله من أوثق عرى الإيمان )، و ( من علامات ذوي حلاوة الإيمان )، وهو ( صريح الإيمان )، وهو ( أفضل الإيمان )، وهذا كله مروي عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه وصف به الحب في الله تعال» "The point is that loving the poor is the essence of love for the sake of Allah, for the poor possess nothing of this world that would warrant love for them because of it. Thus, they are loved only for the sake of Allah, the Almighty. Loving for the sake of Allah is "one of the strongest bonds of Eman," "a sign of those who possess the sweetness of Eman," "the pure essence of Eman," and "the highest form of Eman."
