This year (1445 H), the Day of 'Arafah (9th of Dhul Ḥijjah) will coincide with Saturday (15/06/24). Fasting on this day is permissible for those who wish to do so individually. As for the ḥadīth:
((لَا تَصُومُوا يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ إِلَّا فِي مَا افْتُرِضَ عَلَيْكُمْ، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَّا لِحَاءَ عِنَبَةٍ أَوْ عُودَ شَجَرَةٍ فَلْيَمْضَغْهُ)).
"Do not fast on Saturday except for that which has been enjoined upon you, and if one of you finds nothing but a grape peel or a tree branch, let him chew on it," it is weak. Scholars who have classified it as weak include Az-Zuhri, Al-Awzā'i, Mālik, Abū Dāwūd, Al-Nasā'ē, Al-Ḥākim, Ibn Al-Qayyim, and our Sheikh Muqbil Al-Wādi'ē (may Allāh have mercy on them all).
