𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 (182)

Pap Smear test / cervical screening 🏳️. IS IT PERMISSIBLE? ٠ If the test is not necessary (i.e. there's no cause for concern and is merely being encouraged as a routine checkup), then it is not permissible due to what it involves of exposing one's 'Awrah unnecessarily. Narrated Bahz ibn Hakīm, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: 'I said: “O Messenger of Allah! Regarding our 'Awrah, what of it must we cover and what of it may we leave?” He said: ((احْفَظْ عَوْرَتَكَ إِلاَّ مِنْ زَوْجَتِكَ أَوْ مِمَّا مَلَكَتْ يَمِينُكَ)) “Cover your 'Awrah except from your wife or what your right hand possesses.” He said: “What about a man with another man?” He said: ((إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ لاَ يَرَاهَا أَحَدٌ فَافْعَلْ)) “If you are able not to let anyone see it, then do so.” I said: “What about a man when he is alone?” He said: ((فَاللهُ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُسْتَحْيَا مِنْهُ)).‏ “Allah is most deserving of being shy from Him.” [Reported by Abu Dawud, graded 'Hasan' by Sheikh Albāni] ٠ If the test is necessary, then measures must be taken to minimise any potential fitnah, such as the test being undertaken by a female doctor/nurse, and the patient exposing only what is essential for the test. 2️⃣. WHAT IF I'M STILL A VIRGIN? ٠ If you are not sexually active, you definitely need to consult a reliable health professional to confirm whether this test is even necessary in your case. If it is, then know that absence of hymen is not a recognised sign to determine chastity in Islam. https://t.me/madrasatuna/561 NOTE: Hymen is a thin tissue lining the entrance of the vagina and can be damaged during physical activities such as swimming, cycling, a fall or an injury. As such, lack of hymen does not necessitate lack of chastity. البكارة أعم من العذرية! سُئل الحسن البصري فِي الرَّجُلِ يَقُولُ لِامْرَأَتِهِ: لَمْ أَجِدْكِ عَذْرَاءَ. قَالَ: «لَا شَيْءَ عَلَيْهِ، الْعُذْرَةُ تُذْهِبُهَا الْحَيْضَةُ وَالْوَثْبَةُ». Ḥasan Al-Baṣri was asked about a man who says to his wife, 'I did not find you to be a virgin.' He said, 'There is nothing upon him, as virginity may be removed through menstruation or a fall.'" [Musannaf 'Abdurrazzaq and ibn Abi Shaybah] «وإذا زالت بكارتها بوثبة أو حيضة أو جراحة فهي في حكم الأبكار». "If a girl looses her hymen due to a fall, excessive bleeding, an injury, etc. She is still considered chaste and the rules of a virgin will apply on her." [Mukhtaṣar Al-Qudoori] ADVICE: Due to wrong cultural beliefs, it may be advisable to inform any potential suitor before consumating marriage if the hymen was affected during such test. 🏳️. DOES THIS TEST NECESSITATE WUDHU/GHUSL? According to the stronger opinion, this test does not invalidate the fast, nor does it necessitate ghusl. However, it's advisable to make wudhu just to be one the safe side.
