Are we allowed to eat snakes?

There are several principles that scholars quote to help identify which animals are edible and which ones we must stay away from. Here we will mention two easy principles:
PRINCIPLE 1: Creatures that we have been ORDERED TO KILL are not halaal.
Eg.
A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Five are the harmful things which should be killed in the state of Ihram or otherwise: snake, speckled crow. rat. voracious dog, and kite." [Sahih Muslim, 1198]
PRINCIPLE 2: Creatures that we have been FORBIDDEN TO KILL are not halaal.
Eg.
Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas:
The Prophet (ﷺ) prohibited to kill four creatures: ants, bees, hoopoes, and sparrow-hawks." [Sunan Abi Dawud, 5267 | Sahih (Al-Albani)]
