Holding lengthy discussions during marriage meetings Sheikh Uthaymeen raαΈ₯imahullāh said: "...She is a stranger (ajnabiyyah) like any other woman in the market. This (speaking to a potential suitor for lengthy periods) is not permissible. The Sharia has exempted something from a matter that is forbidden. This is a rule that a student of knowledge must be aware of. If the shariah exempts something from a matter that is forbidden, then the allowance is limited to what was exempted. So, what is the exemption with regards to the strange woman/ajnabiyyah (as it relates to marriage)? Looking at her (only), as for speaking to her (long discussions over the phone), this is not permissible."
