NOTE: It's good that you mentioned "offering condolences via text" because it's not from our religion to hold/partake in special Gatherings for condolences. Instead, condolences are given wherever a person meets the relative of the deceased.

NOTE: We are not allowed to wash, shroud, pray over or attend the funeral of non-Muslims!
The Lajnah Ad-Dā'imah was asked: What is the ruling on attending the funerals of non-Muslims, which has become a political and customary tradition?
They responded: If there are non-Muslims to take care of burying their dead, then Muslims should not involve themselves in their burial or participate in it, or engage in any form of politeness in escorting their funerals, following political traditions. This was not known from the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, or the rightly guided caliphs. Instead, Allah's Messenger, peace be upon him, prohibited standing at the grave of 'Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Salool, citing his disbelief, as Allah says (interpreted meaning): "And do not pray [the funeral prayer, O Muhammad], over any of them who has died - ever - or stand at his grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while they were defiantly disobedient" [Surah Tawbah 84]. However, if there is no one among them to bury the deceased, then Muslims should bury them as the Prophet, peace be upon him, did with the martyrs of Badr and he instructed regarding his uncle Abu Talib when he passed away, saying to Ali: "Go and bury him."
