BENEFIT 106: If someone has gold that does not reach the threshold for Zakāh, but also has money, should the value of the gold be combined with the money to pay Zakāh? This is one of the problematic issues in the rulings of Zakah. Is cash combined with gold or silver to complete the threshold for Zakah? When we were studying the book relating to the rulings of Zakah with our Sheikh Zaaid Al-Wasabi - may Allāh preserve him - he said to me: هذه من المسائل التي لازلت أبحث عنها، وفي نفسي منها شيء.اهـ "This is one of the issues that I am still researching, and I am undecided." He answered - may Allāh preserve him: لا يجب عليه، ولا تضم الأوراق النقدية مع غيرها لتكملة النصاب ، لكن لو كان معه أكثر من عملة (مثلا: سعودي-دولار- يمني) فإنه يضمها إلى بعض لتكلمة النصاب ، فالأوراق النقدية (العملات) بمختلف أنواعها تضم إلى بعضها .اهـ ‟It is not obligatory for him [to combine between the two]. Cash is not combined with other assets to complete the threshold.
