Ibn Ḥajar passed by a Jewish man who was selling oil and [the Jew] said to him: “You claim that your Prophet said that this world is a prison for the believer and a paradise for the disbeliever. So what prison are you in and what paradise am I in?” So Al-Ḥāfidh (Ibn Ḥajar) replied: “In comparison to the bliss that Allāh has prepared for me (i.e. the believers generally) in the Hereafter, I am a prisoner, and in comparison to the torment that Allāh has prepared for you (i.e. the disbelievers generally), you are in paradise.” Upon hearing this the Jew became a Muslim.
