“With regards to the influence a name has on a person, this is with relation to emotional/intangible matters, not physical matters. May Allāh bless you. And this issue was mentioned by Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah Almighty have mercy on him, and others, that the name may have an influence on the person carrying the name. For example, some of them name themselves "Sharārah" (sparks), I mean, it's feared that something will result from this (this name may have a negative influence on the person). These kind of names are not good. That's why they were keen on good names. I mean, we encountered, some of the elders, whose names were [chosen with respect to their meanings] in the Arabic language. They were called Muhammad, Ahmad, Saalih, Abdullah, Sa'eed, Sa'd, Mas'ood...all of them return to having Tafaa'ul (optimism, hoping for good). And with respect to women, they had names like Fatimah, Sa'eedah, khayriyyah, Taybah, Faa'izah...good names (carrying good meanings). As for our time, you find some astonishing, strange names. Names -we seek refuge with Allah- which contain evil (meanings). For this reason some of the scholars stated that the name "Faatin" is not appropriate. Because it carries the meaning of one who causes Fitnah for others and exposes her ownself to Fitnah. So this is what is intended. As for naming someone "Tall" and then they become tall, or naming them "short" and they become short, this is not what is intended. May Allah bless you. Source: https://t.me/madrasatuna/3198
