Abū Is-ḥāq Aḥmad ibn Is-ḥāq ibn Al-Ḥuṣein As-Sarmā'ē [D. 242H.] ٠ A Thiqah (trustworthy, reliable narrator) ٠ Among the Sheikhs of Imām Bukhāri ٠ From Sarmārā; a village in Bukhārā ٠ Well known for his courage, so much so that Bukhāri said about him: ما بلغنا أنه كان في الإسلام ولا الجاهلية مثله “We have not heard of anyone like him in Islam or pre-Islamic times.” One day he took out his sword and said: أعلم يقينا أني قتلت به ألف كافر، وإن عشت قتلت به ألفا أخرى، ولولا خوفي أن يكون بدعة لأمرت أن يدفن معي. “I know for sure that I killed a thousand disbelievers with it, and if I live, I will kill a thousand more with it. Were it not for my fear that it would be an innovation, I would have ordered for it to be buried with me.” Adh-Dhahabi raḥimahullāh said about him: أخبار هذا الغازي تسر قلب المسلم. “News of this warrior brings joy to the heart of a Muslim.” Al-Ḥāfidh Abul Qāsim Ad-Dimashqi raḥimahullāh said: توفي في شهر ربيع الآخر، سنة اثنتين وأربعين ومائتين رحمه الله تعالى، فإنه كان مع فرط شجاعته من العلماء العاملين العباد. “He died in the month of Rabi` al-Akhir, in the year two hundred and forty-two, may Allāh Almighty have mercy on him. And aside from his extreme courage, he was also one of the devoted scholars, engrossed in worship.” 📚 Siyar A’lām An-Nubalā', Tahdhīb Al-Kamāl, Tārīkh Al-Islām
