Is the practice of Taḥnīk (chewing dates or something sweet and rubbing it inside the mouth of a newborn baby) specific to the Prophet (ﷺ)?”

The Lajnah Ad-Dā'imah said in response to a similar question: “Taḥnīk for the newborn baby is a Sunnah which has been confirmed by the action of the Prophet ﷺ for babies born to some Companions (may Allāh be pleased with them). This indicates the generality of this action for the Ummah of the Prophet ﷺ. This is also based on the saying of Allāh (Glorified be He): {لَّقَدۡ كَانَ لَكُمۡ فِی رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ أُسۡوَةٌ حَسَنَةࣱ} “Indeed in the Messenger of Allāh (Muḥammad ﷺ) you have a good example to follow...” [Sūrah Al-Aḥzāb: 21] 📜 Source: https://torontodawah.com/is-tahnik-chewing-dates-or-any-sweet-and-rubbing-it-inside-the-mouth-of-a-newborn-baby-a-sunnah-lajnah-permanent-committee-for-scholarly-research-and-ifta/
