Answer by Sheikh Rashād Aḍ-Ḍhāli’ē ḥafidhahullāh:
There are very weak ḥadīths in relation to calling Adhān in the ear of the newborn. The severity of these ḥadīths [in terms of weakness] is similar to fabrications. Thus, it is not recommended to call Adhān in the ear of the newborn. What's more, this has led some people to call Adhān when burying the dead, due to them relying on a Munkar ḥadīth (a very weak which falls contrary to authentic reports), and them claiming that the first thing a person encounters when entering the world is Adhān and the remembrance of Allāh, and so the last thing they encounter when departing/bidding the world farewell should be Adhān and the remembrance of Allāh. This is also incorrect, and there is no evidence proving this. The Adhān is not prescribed in the ear of the newborn, nor is it prescribed when burying the dead. Rather, some scholars considered this to be from the innovations, because it not proven from the Prophet ﷺ nor his companions. If one of them (the Companions) had a newborn, they would be brought to the Prophet ﷺ to perform taḥnīk (chewing dates or something sweet and rubbing it inside the mouth of a newborn baby) and he would supplicate for them, but they never called Adhān in their ear.
