Question (197) السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته What is the ruling on sisters reciting the Quran to a male teacher? There is an extremely qualified male teacher in our city who has taken many of the hufadhs recitation to a different level with regards to tajweed and the way in which the ayaat are recited. A few sisters would like to start a class with this teacher, however have found conflicting information on whether or not this is permissible. First off, there may not be a barrier, as it may be difficult for him to see how we are pronouncing certain letters. Secondly, we are aware that we are not to beautify our voices in front of men, but we are also aware that the Quran should be read in which our voices should be beautified. Thirdly, there is not a female teacher in the area at the same level as this male teacher and the sisters..... Barakallahu feek.
