🔥 ((كما تكونوا يُولّى عليكم)) 🔥 “As far as your actions are, so will be the rulers who will rule over you.” Although this hadeeth is weak [Adh-Dha'eefah (1/490)], the meaning is generally true - as is indicated by the saying of Allah ﷻ: {وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نُوَلِّی بَعۡضَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ بَعۡضَۢا بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ} “In this way, We make some evildoers have power over others through their misdeeds.” [Surah Al-Anʿām: 129] Imām As-Si'dee rahimahullah commented: “If people do a great deal of wrong and evil, and they withhold what is due from them, Allah will put evildoers in charge of them, who will oppress them, mistreat them and make them suffer, and will take from them unjustly and by force many times more than what they withheld of what is due to Allah and to His slaves, without them getting any reward for giving it. By the same token, if people do good and are upright, Allah will make those in charge of them righteous, and He will make them rulers who rule on the basis of justice and fairness, not on the basis of wrongdoing and oppression.” [Tafsir As-Si'dee] SHORT HISTORY LESSON: Kūfah (a region in Iraq) was famous for discord, sectarianism, and opinions (ra'y), so when Hajjaaj (a tyrant ruler) first took charge over them he delivered a sermon in which he said: يا أهل العراق يا أهل الشقاق يا أهل النفاق ومساوئ الأخلاق إني أرى رؤساً قد أينعت فحان قطوفها. O people of Iraq, O people of discord, O people of hypocrisy and bad morals, I see heads that have ripened, so it is time to pick them (i.e. Chop them off). Prior to him ascending the pulpit, the people had pebbles in their hands to stone him with, but when they heard what he said, the pebbles fell from their hands. His reign over Iraq was one of the bloodiest in history. ADVICE: Before you rush to criticise the rulers, pause and look around you. You will find the ruler is merely a reflection of the society that you live in! This is one of the many reasons why Ahlus-Sunnah warn against revolting against the rulers; revolts only lead to more bloodshed and discord. What use is there in removing one evil ruler for another who is very likely going to be worse than his predecessor?! If you want a righteous ruler, establish the rule of Allah in your households and in your communities. Sheikh Albani rahimahullah said: “How do you expect to establish an Islamic state when you cannot even establish a masjd upon the Sunnah?!”
