Ibn 'Abbās raḍhiyallāhu 'anhu narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
((لا يخلون أحدكم بامرأة إلا مع ذي محرم))
“It is not permissible for a man to be alone with a non-maḥram woman.” [Reported by al-Bukhari no. 5232 and Muslim no. 2172].
Sheikh 'Uthaymeen raḥimahullāh said: “that includes being alone with the driver; i.e. a person has a driver and he allows his wife or daughter to ride with him. It is not permissible for him to allow the driver to be alone with the wife or daughter unless accompanied by a mahram, because being alone in the car is more severe than being alone in the house; for when they are alone in the car, the driver is able to communicate with her, then they can both go to any place and do Faahisha (unlawful sexual intercourse). Who can prevent him from that? Thus, it is prohibited for a person to allow his family; wife, sister, and daughter, etc., to ride alone with the driver - even if the distance is only five steps, it is still not allowed.” [Sharḥ Riyāḍh Aṣ-Ṣāliḥīn]
