During the explanation of his book, entitled:
الجامع الفريد في مخالفات شهر رمضان والعيد
Sheikh Muḥammad Ba Jammāl ḥafidhahullāh mentions the following:
“The ninth mistake: Recording the Tarāwīḥ prayers...this is a munkar that must be warned against, especially as it has become a widespread fitnah amongst the Muslims, it is as though his deeds are unaccounted for unless he takes a picture/ records himself...Taṣwīr dhawāt al-arwāḥ (capturing images of living beings) is not permissible, not for Ṣalāh, nor lectures, nor classes, nor as a momento, nor for any other purpose. It is not permissible. But if one is forced into that out of necessity, allowance is given within the constraints of that necessity, and the sin is on the one who forced him into that...There are some who capture images for the sake of verification/confirmation, in order for donors to know that this masjid is overcrowded and in need of assistance. And the same with lessons; to display the number of people who attend the lesson, then requesting help and assistance by way of that...who burdened them with that? Allāh did not burden them with that. Rather all that's upon them is to fear Allāh according to their ability. Worship Allāh, do good, benefit yourself and others according to your ability. If you are unable (to do more), then you have acted according to your ability. Allāh does not burden a soul with more than it can bear. You are responsible for what is within your capacity - not for what is beyond your capacity. So if you are unable to satisfy all the needs of the masjid and so on, do what you can. If you are unable to cover the masjid's water and electric bills, be moderate in that. And the owners of the masjid must assist one another in that. The people should also assist in that. A lot of people's money goes to waste in unnecessary things; fun, games and things that are excess to one's requirements. But if they assisted one another, that would have been better than them resorting to making Taṣwīr and showing that to people; people who may or may not donate to the cause. We fall into sin (through Taṣwīr), when at the end they may or may not donate...we have not been burdened with this... We have been commanded to act according to our ability, and whatever is beyond our ability, we are not held responsible for that. Therefore, we must not fall into sin on the basis that we want to expand the masjid. We must not disobey Allāh on the basis that we want financial assistance for the masjid. We must not disobey Allāh on the basis that students need financial support. “And whoever fears Allāh, Allāh will make a way out for him, and provide for him from means that he never expected.” “And whoever places his reliance on Allāh, Allāh will suffice him.” We have to believe in this Āyah and what it indicates; “And whoever fears Allāh, Allāh will make a way out for him.” This result may come within a week, within a month, after a year, or even ten years. We don't know. And even then, the greatest result is that you haven't disobeyed your Lord, and you exit this world knowing that you have obeyed Allāh in this regard...”
