I advised some brothers on a number of occasions against begging, but to no avail. My latest attempt was met with: “...only person who said it is begging is jealous (i.e. The one who advises against these types of fundraising campaigns is jealous). There's no other explanation for that. There's no evidence from the Shari’ah for that (i.e. There's no evidence to prohibit such campaigns). It's only mocking and jealousy.” This paragraph contains three accusations: (1) jealousy (2) mocking (3) no evidence in the Shari’ah As for jealousy and mocking, then these are baseless accusations which should be disregarded. As for lack of evidence, then the evidences which prohibit begging - on a general basis - are many; from them is the hadith of Qabeesah ibn Al-Mukhaariq (see link https://t.me/madrasatuna/1522 This is the same hadeeth cited by Sheikh Rabee' in his Fatwa, mentioned below. Advice: I would not be so bold as to make such generalisations, otherwise you will include the following scholars in these accusations. ___ Establishing Fundraisers in the Masjid Question: بعض المساجد في أمريكا يريدون بناء مسجد جديد لهم لكن ما عندهم المال الكافي، لذلك يقيمون محاضرات في مسجدهم ويعلنون لها فيجمعون الناس لأجل أن يسألوهم مالا، هل هذا الفعل من السنة؟ There are some masaajid in America that want to build a new Masjid for themselves, but they don't have sufficient funds to build it, so they put on lectures in the masjid, advertise them and attract people in order to request donations from them. Is this action from the Sunnah? 1. Answer of Sheikh Muhammad Ba Jammal hafidhahullah: لا، ما يكون على وجه مسألة وإنما إذا كنت تعرف شخصا من أهل الخير تعرف على أنه في عندنا نريد أن نبني مسجدا أو نريد كذا و كذا، نعم. أما يكون هذا؛ يعني على مستوى مسألة على ميكروفون في مسجد، فلا. No. This should not be done in the way of asking the people. But what should be done is if you know a good, generous person that likes to aid, then inform him, that you have a need to build a masjid or you need this or that. Yes, like this. As for this; meaning, establishing these fundraising lectures in the masjid on the microphone, asking and asking the people for donations, then No. 2. Answer of Sheikh AbdulGhaniyy Al-'Umari hafidhahullah: هذه تصرفات الحزبيين، يبحثون عن فاعل خير بدون هذه التصرفات These methods are from the ways of the hizbees. They should look for a generous good doer, without using these methods. 3. Answer of Sheikh Jum'an Lahmar hafidhahullah: هذا ليس بصحيح. ما سمعت هذا من المنهاج السلف هذه الأمة. This is not right. I have not heard this to be from the manhaj of the Salaf of this Ummah. 4. Answer of Sheikh Abu Musa Abdullah Hableel hafidhahullah: ما سمعت أحدا من العلماء اليمن يحل هذا الفعل في مساجد أهل السنة. ما أعرف هذا فعل إلا من أصحاب الجمعيات. I have not heard any of the scholars of Yemen allowing this type of activity in the masaajid of Ahlul Sunnah. I only know this from the people of Jam'iyyaat (charity organisations). These answers were compiled by: Abu Yusuf Bilal ibn Howard Robinson ___ We want Fataawa of the Kibaaar!!! For those who are still not content with the above Fataawa, I offer you the Fatwa of Sheikh Rabee' on this topic. But why Sheikh Rabee' of all people? Shaikh Muqbil rahimahullah stated: “I advise you to ask Shaikh Rabī’ ibn Hādī hafidhahullah. A great deal of his life has passed with [dealing with] al-Ikhwān al-Muslimīn. He is the most knowledgeable person concerning them and their realities, and the true nature of the Jama’āt (misguided groups). I do not ask from you that you blindly follow Shaikh Rabī’, but that you should benefit from his knowledge. I do not say to you: Seek fatāwā from Mahmūd al-Haddād, nor from Farīd Mālik – rather seek fatāwā from a righteous man (i.e. Shaikh Rabī’), a scholar from the noble scholars – one who has made considerable inroads [in exposing] al-Ikhwān al-Muslimīn.” [Fadā’ih wa Nasā’ih of Shaikh Muqbil, (p. 126)] He (Sheikh Muqbil) rahimahullah also stated:
