One day, 'Abdullah Ibn Muhaireez Al-Jumahi (A great Taabi'ee, D. 99H) went to a cloth merchant to buy a garment, and though the merchant did not know him, there was another man present who knew him. Ibn Muhaireez asked the merchant: 'How much is this garment?' The merchant replied: 'It costs such and such.' The man who knew him said: 'Don't you know who this is? This is ibn Muhaireez, so be good to him (i.e. Give him a good price).' Upon hearing this, Ibn Muhaireez became very angry and said: 'I came to buy with my money, and I did not come to buy with my religion,' he then got up and left without buying anything.
