Question:
May Allāh be good to you, the questioner says: What is the ruling on some of the Sheikhs and du'aat going to give lectures in centres and camps of those upon methodologies contradictory to the Salafi methodology, and this happens at their request, bearing in mind that these lectures are announced publicly? Also (what is the ruling on) retweeting the tweets of the those who in opposition (to the Salafi manhaj), although these tweets are free from manhaj related errors. May Allah bless you. I will talk about two things
Answer:
May Allah bless you. I will speak about two matters. The first [matter] is what I see to be in line with what was established by the Salaf As-Salih, may Allah be pleased with them, in relation to the act in question. And the second matter is, how do we deal with those who do this act.
As for the first matter, then it is well known from the Salaf that they would warn against sitting with the people of innovation. Rather, they would even forbid for one to listen to a single Aayah from the innovator. A single Aayah from the Qur'aan! This -as they explained- is because you don't know how they will insert (their innovation) into it. You don't know how they will trap you thereby and what effect that will have. So the principle established with the Salaf is to separate from the people of innovation, not to listen to them, nor sit with them. The warnings from the Salaf in this regard are much. It is not permissible for a Salafi to increase the numbers of the people of innovation. It is not permissible to call [people] to them, nor to beautify them for the people; because when you go to them you beautify them for the people. This is what happens. People will say, if there was something wrong with them, Suleiman (referring to himself) for example, would not have gone to them. If there was something wrong with them so-and-so would not have gone to them. And in reality, this is what harms the Ummah and harms the Da'wah. Even if you go and speak the truth, who will precede you and who will take the stage after you? Good people will attend because of you, so they end up becoming familiar with the place and come back again and again. If you come to speak the truth, then there are those who will come and erase and change what you have said. So all you achieve from that is you bring them the best (i.e. Salafis will end up attending this place on a frequent basis), and this is not permissible. And for that reason, what we knew from the principles of the Salaf and what we learnt from our Sheikhs is that one does not go to such gatherings, even if the person is given the freedom to say whatever he wants. And the rule - oh brothers - is that warding off evil takes precedence over bringing about good. And they say protecting the capital takes precedence over drawing profit. So when you go there you want to acquire something new, but it often entails losing your capital. What we learned from our Sheikhs and from the principles of the Salaf is that this is not permissible. The Salafi call is a manifest call that does not need anyone. You do not need anyone. You are not required to do what is not within your capacity. Some people say: These are large numbers. Who said that you are required to address large numbers? What is required of you is to address whomever you are able to address, in a correct manner that does not result in evil.
As for the second matter...how do we deal with our [Salafi] brothers who misinterpreted [the texts], or perhaps they cling to the fatwas of some of our Sheikhs? [The answer is] we do not agree with them [in this], when we meet them we advise them, and if we are asked, we answer with what we believe, but we do not disparage our brothers; those who are known to be upon steadfastness but fell into misinterpretation and thus attended such gatherings that were mentioned in the question, or they sought fatwa from one of our scholars, and they were issued a fatwa and so they went due to that, we excuse them and we do not attack them.
