He hafidhahullah commented:

وهذا هو الذي كان أئمة أهل السنة يوصون به من عدم غشيان المبتدعة في مجالسهم ولا مخالطتهم، بل هجرهم بالكلام، وهجرانهم بالأبدان، حتى تخمد بدعهم، وحتى لا ينتشر شرهم... ونلاحظ اليوم أنه في هذه المسألة ترك كثير هذا الأصل، فكثير من الناس يخالط المبتدعة ولا يهجرهم لحجج شتى: إما دنيوية، وإما دعوية، أو دينية، وهذا مما ينبغي التنبه له والتحذير منه؛ لأن هجران أهل البدع متعين، قلا تجوز مخالطتهم بدعوى أن ذلك للدعوة، ولا تجوز مخالطتهم بدعوى أن ذلك للدنيا، ولا مخالطتهم وعدم الإنكار بدعوى أن هذا فيه مصلحة كذا وكذا، إلا لمن أراد أن ينقلهم لِما هو أفضل مما هم فيه، وأن ينكر عليهم، ويغير عليهم". "And this is what the imams of Ahlus-Sunnah used to advise with; not to enter upon the innovators in their assemblies, nor to mix with them, but to shun them verbally (not to speak to them) and physically (not to mix with them), until their innovations are extinguished and their evil is stopped from spreading...And today we notice that many have left this principle, hence many of them mix with innovators and they do not boycott them for various reasons: either worldly, Da'wah related, or religious reasons, and this is something that should be cautioned and warned against; Because abandoning the people of innovation is something obligatory, so it is not permissible to mix with them on the grounds of da’wah, nor it is it permissible to mix with them on the grounds of worldly reasons, nor is it permissible to mix with them without denouncing (their falsehood) on the grounds that this is in the interest of such-and-such, except for those who want to transfer them to what is better than what they are upon, and to denounce (their falsehood) and change them.” 4⃣. What Da'wah are you giving to such people when all you do is socialise with them and give lectures on random topics without actually addressing their mistakes?! Do you think that if at some point during the lecture you mention the words 'Sunnah', 'Tawheed' and 'Salaf', that this is sufficient in calling people to the Sunnah, Tawheed and the way of the Salaf?! Sprinkling your lecture with these phrases is not enough to clarify the truth and caution them from their innovations! On the contrary, clarification of the truth requires Tafseel (detail), as Allah said: {وَكَذَ ٰ⁠لِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡـَٔایَـٰتِ وَلِتَسۡتَبِینَ سَبِیلُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ} "And thus do We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail, that the way of the Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners), may become manifest." [Surah Al-Anʿām: 55] Especially in the case of bid'ah, because it is so unclear and easily confused, as Sheikhul Islam ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullah said: "البدعة لا تكون حقًّا محضًا موافقًا للسنة؛ إذا لو كانت كذلك لم تكن باطلًا، ولا تكون باطلًا محضًا لا حق فيه؛ إذا لو كانت كذلك لم تخفَ على الناس، ولكن تشتمل على حق وباطل، فيكون صاحبها قد لبَّس الحق بالباطل". "Innovation is not pure truth which conforms to the Sunnah; If it were, it would not be falsehood. Nor is it pure falsehood without any truth in it; If it were like that, it would not be unclear to the people, but it contains a mix of truth and falsehood, so the person of innovation confuses truth with falsehood." [Majmu' Al-Fataawa (27/172)] 5⃣. In reality, you will notice that they (the people of innovation) are the ones giving you Da'wah. Ibn Battah Al-'Ukbari rahimahullah said: "لا يحملن أحدًا منكم حسن ظنه بنفسه، وما عهده من معرفته بصحة مذهبه على المخاطرة بدينه، في مجالسة بعض أهل هذه الأهواء، فيقول: أداخله لأناظره، أو لأستخرج منه مذهبه؛ فإنهم أشد فتنة من الدجال، وكلامهم ألصق من الجَرَبِ، وأحرق للقلوب من اللهب، ولقد رأيت جماعة من الناس كانوا يلعنونهم ويسبونهم، فجالسوهم على سبيل الإنكار والرد عليهم، فما زالت بهم المباسطة، وخفيُّ المكر، ودقيق الكفر حتى صبَوا إليهم". "Do not allow the good thought that you have of yourself and the soundness of your madh-hab lead you to risking your religion by sitting with some of the people of innovation such that you say: I will enter upon him to debate him or remove him from his madh-hab.
