’Umar ibn ’Abdil-Azīz raḥimahullāh said:
إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ فَكُنْ عَالِماً، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ فَكُنْ مُتَعَلِّماً، وَإِنْ لَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ فَأَحَبَّهُمْ، وَإِنْ لَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ فَلا تُبْغِضْهُمْ. “Become a scholar if you can, If you can't, then be a student. If you can't, then love them. If you can't, then (at least) don't hate them.” [Jāmi’ Bayān Al-’ilm (1/142)]
