BENEFIT 52: Two Sunnahs to implement when sending salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ Our teacher Dāris ḥafidhahullāh mentioned: “There are two Sunnahs that should be implemented when sending salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ: ▪️The first: To combine between Ṣalāh and Salām, as Allāh ﷻ instructed in His saying: { إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَتَهُۥ یُصَلُّونَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِیِّۚ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ صَلُّوا۟ عَلَیۡهِ وَسَلِّمُوا۟ تَسۡلِیمًا } “Indeed, Allāh showers His blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels pray for him. O believers! Invoke Allāh’s blessings upon him, and salute him with worthy greetings of peace.” [Sūrah Al-Aḥzāb: 56] So rather than saying: صلى الله عليه / اللهم سلم عليه We should say: صلى الله عليه وسلم ▪️The second Sunnah: To include the family of Prophet ﷺ: The evidence for this is the ḥadīth of Ka’b ibn ’Ujrah raḍhiyallāhu ’anhu, who said: “Once the Prophet (ﷺ) came to us and we said, 'O Allāh's Messenger (ﷺ)! We know how to greet you; but how do we send 'Ṣalāt' upon you? He said, 'Say: اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ...(الحديث) [Bukhāri 6357] So rather than saying: صلى الله عليه وسلم it's better to say: صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم
