BENEFIT 47: Abū Ghādiyah (غادية) Sheikh Jum’ān ḥafidhahullāh said: There are three Companions who share this Kunya (Abū Ghādiyah): 1⃣. Abū Ghādiyah Al-Juhani [His actual name is Yasār ibn Sabu’ سَبُع]. He is the most well-known of the three because he reported the most ḥadīths. (*) 2⃣. Abū Ghādiyah Al-Muzani 3⃣. Abū Ghādiyah - he made Hijrah alongside his mother. ------------ (*) There occurred an issue between him and ’Ammār ibn Yāsir (may Allāh be pleased with them both), hence he (Abū Ghādiyah) said: “If ever I get the chance, I will kill him.” Thus during the battle of Ṣiffīn (a very unfortunate incident involving the armies of ’Ali & Mu’āwiyah raḍhiyallāhu ’anhum), the two of them (’Ammār & Abū Ghādiyah) were on opposing sides, and so Abū Ghādiyah was able to kill ’Ammār. 🔺Note: The Prophet ﷺ said: ((وَيْحَ عَمَّارٍ ، تَقْتُلُهُ الفِئَةُ البَاغِيَةُ)) “Woe unto ’Ammār. He will be killed by the transgressive group.” [Bukhāri 447] This ḥadīth indicates that ’Ali was more rightful, since ’Ammār was killed by Mu’āwiyah's army (may Allāh be pleased with them all). Ibn Kathīr raḥimahullāh said: “This ḥadīth is among the proofs attesting to (his) prophecy, because he ﷺ foretold the killing of ’Ammār by the transgressive group. And he was killed by the people of Shām in the battle of Ṣiffīn. ’Ammār was on the side of ’Ali and the people of ’Irāq...and ’Ali was more rightful in the matter than Mu’āwiyah. Moreover, the companions of Mu’āwiyah being referred to as the transgressors does not necessitate declaring them to be disbelievers, as the ignorant and misguided sect of the Shiites and others try to do. Rather, even if they were the transgressors, they engaged in fighting only on the basis of ijtihad, however, not every mujtahid gets it right; rather the one who gets it right will have two rewards, and the one who gets it wrong will have only one reward...” [Al-Bidāyah wan Nihāyah (4/538)]
