BENEFIT 35: what to say after rising from rukū’ I asked Sheikh Jum'an Laḥmar ḥafidhahullāh: what does one say if the imām prolongs the standing after the rukū’? He said: say لِرَبِّيَ الْحَمْدُ (praise be to my Lord) repeatedly. I asked him: what is the proof? He said: the ḥadīth of Ḥudhaifah raḍhiyallāhu ’anhu when he prayed with the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) one night and he heard him say when he said the takbir: ((اللهُ أَكْبَرُ ذَا الْجَبَرُوتِ وَالْمَلَكُوتِ وَالْكِبْرِيَاءِ وَالْعَظَمَةِ)) “Allāh is Most Great, the One Who has all power, sovereignty, magnificence and might.” When bowing he would say: ((سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيمِ)) “Glory be to my Lord Almighty.” When he raised his head from bowing he would say: ((لِرَبِّي الْحَمْدُ لِرَبِّي الْحَمْدُ)) “To my Lord be praise, to my Lord be praise.” And when he prostrated (he said): ((سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الأَعْلَى)) “Glory be to my Lord Most High.” And between the two prostrations (he said): ((رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي)) “Lord forgive me, Lord forgive me.” His standing, his bowing, when he raised his head from bowing, his prostration and the time between the two prostrations, were almost the same.” [Sunan An-Nasa'i (1069), Sunan Abi Dawud (874) - graded Ṣaḥīḥ by Sheikh Albāni] I said: O Sheikh, this ḥadīth is referring to Qiyām; which is a voluntary prayer, so does it also apply to obligatory prayers? He said: Everything that is established in the voluntary prayer is also applicable to the obligatory prayer unless there is evidence to suggest otherwise. ____ 10/Ramaḍhān/1444 H.
