FIVE forgotten Sunnahs pertaining to the night prayer

1⃣. Commencing the night prayer with two short rak‘ahs ’Ā'ishah raḍhiyallāhu ’anhā reported that when the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) stood up at night to pray, he began his prayer with two short rak'ahs. [Muslim 767] Likewise, Abū Hurairah raḍhiyallāhu ’anhu reported Allāh's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying, “When any one of you gets up at night, he should begin the prayer with two short rak’ahs.” [Muslim 768] 🔺Note: In some reports it mentions that the Prophet ﷺ used to pray 11 rak‘ahs at night, and in other reports it mentions 13 rak‘ahs. The way to reconcile between these two reports is: those who reported 11 rak'ahs did not include these two short rak‘ahs, whereas those who reported 13 rak‘ahs counted these two short rak'ahs. 🔺Note: Sheikh ’Uthaymīn raḥimahullāh mentioned that the Sunnah is to offer these two short rak‘ahs after waking up at night. As for one who offers the night prayer at the start of the night without having slept, then in this case it's not Sunnah to offer these two short rak‘ahs. https://binothaimeen.net/content/301 2⃣. Reciting Al-Fātiḥah by itself in both of these rak‘ahs Ibn ’Abās raḍhiyallāhu ’anhu said: “I spent a night with him (i.e. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ) when he was with Maymūnah. He slept and awoke when half the night or one-third of it had passed. He stood up and went to a leather water-skin containing water. He performed ablution and I also performed ablution with him. He then stood up and I also stood at his left side. He made me stand at his right side. He then put his hand upon my head, as he was touching my ear and awakening me. He then prayed two short rak'ahs and recited Sūrah Al-Fātiḥah in each of them, and uttered the salutation (i.e. Tashahhud). He then prayed eleven rak'ahs observing the witr and slept. Then Bilāl came to him and said: Prayer, Messenger of Allāh. He got up and prayed two rak'ahs, and then led the people in the [Fajr] prayer. [Abū Dāwūd 1364 - graded 'Ṣaḥīḥ' by Sheikh Yaḥyā] 3⃣. Reciting the opening supplications specific to the night prayer ’Ali ibn Abi Ṭālib raḍhiyallāhu ’anhu reported that when the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ got up at night for prayer he would say: ((وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِنَّ صَلاَتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَاىَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ ‏.‏ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَاعْتَرَفْتُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي جَمِيعًا إِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَاهْدِنِي لأَحْسَنِ الأَخْلاَقِ لاَ يَهْدِي لأَحْسَنِهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا لاَ يَصْرِفُ عَنِّي سَيِّئَهَا إِلاَّ أَنْتَ لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ وَالْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ فِي يَدَيْكَ وَالشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إِلَيْكَ أَنَا بِكَ وَإِلَيْكَ تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ)). “I turn my face in complete devotion to One Who is the Originator of the heaven and the earth and I am not of the polytheists. Verily my prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of the worlds; There is no partner with Him and this is what I have been commanded (to profess and believe) and I am of the believers. O Allah, You are the King, there is no god but You, You are my Lord, and I am Your bondman. I wronged myself and make a confession of my Sin. Forgive all my sins, for no one forgives the sins but You, and guide me in the best of conduct for none but You guideth anyone (in) good conduct. Remove sins from me, for none else but You can remove sins from me. Here I am at Your service, and Grace is to You and the whole of good is in Your hand, and one cannot get nearneststo You through evil. My (power as well as existence) is due to You (Your grace) and I turn to You (for supplication). You are blessed and You are exalted. I seek forgiveness from You and turn to You in repentance.” [Muslim 771]
