[Part 2] How to offer Ṣalātul ’Eid
This is the final class in this series
1. When you arrive at the Muṣallā, you should sit down in rows. There is no Taḥiyyatul masjid for entering the Musallā. There's no Adhān, no Iqāmah, and no voluntary prayers to be offered before nor after the ’Eid Ṣalāh.
2. Continue saying takbīr out loud until the Imām arrives.
3. When the Imām arrives you should stop saying the takbīr and begin straightening the rows in preparation for Ṣalāh.
🔺Note: Ṣalātul ’Eid is offered before the khuṭbah, unlike Ṣalātul Jumu’ah.
4. ’Eid Ṣalāh is observed in the same manner during both ’Eids. It's made up of two units. It is an audible prayer just like Fajr.
5. In the first rak‘ah the Imām will begin by making the opening takbīr (Takbīrah At-Taḥrīm). Once he does this, you should raise your hands and say the takbīr after him just as you would at the beginning of any other Ṣalāh.
6. Then recite the opening supplication (Du’ā Al-Istiftāḥ) as you would in any other Ṣalāh.
7. The Imām will then say takbīr 7 times. Repeat after him, but do not raise your hands when saying these takbīrs - as this has not been established from the Prophet ﷺ.
🔺Note: The scholars differed with regards to the opening takbīr; is it included in the 7 takbirs or not? The differing here is not a major issue, but bear in mind that if the Imām makes only 6 takbirs, it's because he has included the opening takbīr as part of the 7.
8. The Imām will recite Fātiḥah out loud, and you must recite Fātiḥah quietly to yourself; you can choose one of three options to do this:
(1) recite Fātiḥah with the Imām
(2) recite after the Imām Āyah by Āyah in between the pauses
(3) recite the whole of Fātiḥah after saying Āmīn
9. After reciting Fātiḥah, you must remain silent and listen to the Imām while he recites the nect Sūrah.
10. The Sunnah is for the Imām to opt for one of two options:
Option 1: recite Sūrah Al-A’lā in the first rak’ah, and Sūrah Al-Ghāshiyah in the second rak‘ah. [Reported by Muslim on the authority of An-Nu’mān ibn Bashīr]
Option 2: recite Sūrah Qāf in the first rak’ah, and Sūrah Al-Qamar in the second rak’ah. [Reported by Muslim on the authority of Abu Wāqid Al-Laythī]
If the Imām recites other Sūrahs, that is fine, but it's better to follow the Sunnah. Furthermore, if the Imām is leading the common folk, it's better he implements option 1 (Al-A’lā and Ghāshiyah), so it's not burden upon them. But if he is leading a congregation that loves to implement the Sunnah, he can implement option 2 (Qāf & Al-Qamr).
11. The rest of this rak’ah is exactly the same as the first rak’ah of Fajr.
12. Once the Imām has stood up for the second rak'ah, he will say Takbīr 5 times. Repeat after him without raising your hands.
🔺Note: There is no differing as to the number of Takbīrs in this case!
13. The rest of the prayer is the exactly the same as the second rak’ah of Fajr.
____
Extra issues related to Ṣalātul ’Eid:
• There's no special Dhikr (remembrance/D’uā) to be said between the takbīrs.
• The 7 takbīrs in the first and the 5 in the second are all Sunnah, so there's no prostration of forgetfulness required incase one misses them; the prayer is still valid.
• If someone joins the prayer midway while the Imām is making Takbīr, he says the opening takbīr to join the prayer, then he continues repeating the remaining takbīrs with the Imām. He doesn't need make make up the missed takbīrs.
• If someone joins the congregation in the second rak’ah, he prays this as his first, then once the Imām makes taslīm, he stands up and prays his second rak‘ah making 5 takbīrs, according to the majority of scholars.
• If someone remembers the takbīrs only after commencing Sūratul Fātihah, then he should continue, because its time has passed.

14. After Ṣalāh, you should remain seated in your row and listen to the Khuṭbah. Although listening to the khuṭbah is not obligatory, it's better to remain and benefit from the speaker if is Salafi.
