Also, Ibnul Mundhir raḥimahullāh said: “The scholars are agreed that the time for Witr runs from ’Ishā' prayer until dawnbreak.” [Al-Majmū’]

🔺Note: In the case of a traveller who offers ’Ishā' early at the time of Maghrib, the night prayer begins once he prays ’Ishā'. [Sharḥ Al-Mumti’] POINT 5: The best time to offer the night prayer The Prophet ﷺ said: “If anyone is afraid that he may not get up in the last part of the night, he should pray Witr in the first part of it; and if anyone is eager to get up in the last part of it, he should pray Witr at the end of the night, for prayer at the end of the night is witnessed (by the angels) and that is preferable.” [Muslim] This ḥadīth clearly proves that offering the night prayer during the last part of the night is more preferable. However, in the case of someone who knows that he won't be able to wake up during the last part, it is best for him to pray during the first part of the night. POINT 6: The different ways of offering the night prayer ⤵️ https://t.me/madrasatuna/1474 🔺Note: Most of the scholars have said, the night prayer should be offered in sets of two's, based on the statement of the Prophet ﷺ: “Night prayers are two by two.” [Bukhāri & Muslim] Most of these scholars disliked praying more than two units consecutively without taslīm, and some of them even prohibited that. However, what's correct is that this ḥadīth has come to clarify the most preferred method of offering the night prayer - not that other methods are disliked or prohibited. This (praying in sets of two's) was also the most common practice of the Prophet ﷺ. [An-Nawawi's explanation of Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim]. Point 7: The minimum and maximum number of units that can be offered Most of the scholars have said, the minimum number is one rak'ah, due to the statement of the Prophet ﷺ: “Witr is a single rak'ah at the end of the night.” [Muslim] Also, his saying ﷺ: “If you are afraid of dawn pray one rak’ah.” [Bukhāri & Muslim]. And it is authentically established from some of the Companions that they used to offer night prayer by offering a single unit. As for the maximum, then what's correct is there's no maximum, as indicated by the statement of the Prophet ﷺ: “The night prayer is two by two, but if you are afraid of dawn, pray one rak’ah and that will make odd (Witr) all that you have prayed.” [Bukhāri & Muslim] Likewise, ’Amr ibn ’Abasah As-Sulami raḍhiyallāhu ’anhu said: “I asked: O Messenger of Allāh, in which part of the night is the supplication more likely to be answered? He replied: In the last part: Pray as much as you like, for the prayer is witnessed by the angels and it is recorded till you offer the dawn prayer...” [Abū Dāwūd] However, the best guidance is the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ never offered more than eleven units. POINT 8: If someone prays Tarāwīḥ with the Imām at the start of the night, can they pray Tahajjud in the last part of the night? The Prophet ﷺ said: “There should not be two Witrs in one night.” [Abū Dāwūd] Two Witrs will equal an even number, and this is not permissible as mentioned by Sheikhul Islām Ibn Taymiyyah raḥimahullāh. So based on this ḥadīth, a person has two options: 1st option: To pray with the Imām including Witr, then to offer Tahajjud during the last part without praying Witr again. 2nd option: To pray with the Imām excluding Witr, then to offer Tahajjud including Witr during the last part of the night. In both cases, a person would have prayed an odd number of units as required. However, the first method is better because the Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever prays with the Imām until he finished, then it is recorded for him that he prayed the whole night.” [Tirmithi - graded 'Ṣaḥīḥ' by Sheikh Albāni] POINT 9: What to say after Witr ⤵️ https://t.me/madrasatuna/1416 Final advice: Practical steps to help a person get into the habit of offering the night prayer ⤵️ https://t.me/madrasatuna/1010
