Additional note related to lessons 9 & 10:

In lesson 9 we mentioned 6 conditions for fasting to be obligatory, and in lesson 10 we mentioned 5 conditions for fasting to be valid. Here we will add one more condition, which falls into both categories (i.e. conditions of obligation and validity); this is the condition of 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘. A person is not obligated to fast unless the time for fasting begins; which starts with the commencement of Ramaḍhān and continues until the end of Ramaḍhān. The proof for this being a condition is the saying of Allāh the Exalted (translated meaning): “So whoever witnesses this month, must observe fast.” [Sūrah Al-Baqarah: 185] Likewise, the statement of the Prophet ﷺ: “Fast when you see it, and stop fasting when you see it.” [Bukhāri & Muslim] Time is also a condition for fasting to be valid, because acts of worship which have a set time must be fulfilled within those set times, otherwise they will be rejected. The Prophet ﷺ said: “He who does something contrary to our way will have it rejected.” [Bukhāri & Muslim] 🔺Note: The fast of Ramaḍhān must occur within two times: (1) A general time: to fast in the month of Ramaḍhān (2) A specific time: to fast from dawn till dusk [i.e. If someone fasts in the month Ramaḍhān, but they fast at night (from dusk till dawn), their fast is null and void] The condition of 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 was not mentioned during the class because I thought it would be obvious from the previous classes; but then again, something that's obvious to some may not be obvious to others. To summarise, there are: 7⃣ conditions for fasting to be obligatory: 1. Islām 2. Sanity 3. Adulthood 4. Health 5. Residency 6. Correct time 7. Purity (specific to women) 6⃣ conditions for fasting to be valid: 1. Islām 2. Sanity 3. Discernment 4. Intention 5. Correct time 6. Purity (specific to women) ____ 4⃣ conditions common to both: 1. Islām 2. Sanity 3. Correct time 4. Purity (specific to women)
