The previous benefit concerning the Abjad system is a topic you are likely to encounter in the books of Tajweed and Lughah, so you may be surprised to know that this topic is also mentioned in Kitab At-Tawheed! So, what is the connection between the two? Sheikh Muhammad Ibn AbdilWahhab rahimahullah mentions the following Athar [under the chapter heading: باب ما جاء في الكهان ونحوهم] Ibn Abbas raḍhiyallāhu ’anhu said about those people who write the 'أبا جاد' (i.e. The Abjadiyyah)...“Anyone who does this will have no share with Allah whatsoever (I.e. They are disbelievers).” Our teacher (Āmir Al-Leebi may Allāh reward him with good) clarified that: The ruling on learning the Abjad system varies depending on the objective: ✅: If it is used in the manner explained in the previous benefit (https://t.me/madrasatuna/2001); to number items on a list, or to assign numerical values to words & phrases for the purpose of counting or recording dates, then THIS IS PERMISSIBLE. ❌: But if it is studied/used in order to claim knowledge of the unseen then THIS ENTERS INTO SHIRK. [*] Similarly, Sheikh Fawzan ḥafidhahullāh mentions in his commentary: ما يستفاد من الأثر: ١. تحريم تعلم 'أبي جاد' على وجه ادعاء علم الغيب به؛ لأنه ينافي التوحيد “Benefits derived from the Athar: 1. The prohibition of learning 'Abu Jad' (The Abjadiyyah) in order to claim knowledge of the unseen; as this contradicts Tawheed.” [Al-Mulakhaṣ fī Sharḥ Kitāb At-Tawḥīd] __ [*] This is know as Numerology/ Arithmancy; belief in an occult, divine or mystical relationship between a number and one or more coinciding events.
