BENEFIT 17: A misfortune which brings you closer to Allah is better than a thousand blessings that take you away from Him

“That is how Ar-Rabb (Allāh), Exalted is He, punishes his servants for their crimes; He disciplines His believing servant who is beloved and dear to Him for the slightest slip and error so he remains alert and cautious. As for the one who lacks value and merit in His sight, He leaves him to continue with his sins, and whenever he commits a sin He bestows a blessing upon him, but the fool thinks it is a token of esteem, not knowing that it is actually a humiliation, and that Allah wants him to face a severe torment and a never ending punishment (in the Hereafter), as mentioned in the famous ḥadīth: “When Allāh wants good for His slave, He hastens his punishment in the worldly life. And when He wants bad for His slave, He withholds His punishment from him in the worldly life until he appears before Him on the Day of Judgement with his sins.”
