💯 Miscellaneous Benefits from Yemen

BENEFIT 13: {إِذۡ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِأَهۡلِهِۦۤ إِنِّیۤ ءَانَسۡتُ نَارࣰا سَـَٔاتِیكُم مِّنۡهَا بِخَبَرٍ أَوۡ ءَاتِیكُم بِشِهَابࣲ قَبَسࣲ لَّعَلَّكُمۡ تَصۡطَلُونَ} “˹Remember˺ when Mūsā said to his family, “I have spotted a fire. I will either bring you some directions from there, or a burning brand so you may warm yourselves.” [Surah An-Naml: 7] Concerning this Āyah, Sheikh Ju'mān mentioned the following benefits in the tafsīr class: 1⃣. Mūsā عليه السلام spotted an actual fire and not a shining light as some have said. This is proven by the last part of the Āyah, i.e. His saying, 'burning brand so you may warm yourselves'. 2⃣. The fire of this Dunya, as devastating as it may be, it also has some useful benefits, such as light and heat. Likewise: {نَحۡنُ جَعَلۡنَـٰهَا تَذۡكِرَةࣰ وَمَتَـٰعࣰا لِّلۡمُقۡوِینَ} “We have made it (i.e. the fire of this Dunya) ˹as˺ a reminder ˹of the Hellfire˺ and a provision for the travellers.” [Sūrah Al-Wâqi`ah: 73] 3⃣. The Prophets and Messengers have no knowledge of the unseen. Mūsā peace be upon him went to ask for direction because he was lost. If he had knowledge of the unseen this would not have been the case. Likewise, the Prophets and Messengers are ordinary human beings; they feel cold, hot, etc, except that they have been favoured with revelation. {قُلۡ إِنَّمَاۤ أَنَا۠ بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ یُوحَىٰۤ إِلَیَّ} “Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “I am only a man like you, ˹but˺ it has been revealed to me...” [Sūrah Al-Kahf: 110] 4⃣. Being compassionate to one's wife and doing one's best to protect them from harm. 5⃣. Tawakkul (reliance upon Allāh) goes hand in hand with taking the necessary means.
