I understand that mixed universities are haram but how does one go about making hijrah, considering a lot of Muslim countries won’t take anyone in unless they have degrees or certificates? Answer: Living in the West, this is the question that goes through many Muslims' minds. But unfortunately in answer to this question many resort to the Shaytanic principle, 'ends justify the means' Means = Studying in a mixed University End = Hijrah 'The end justifies the means' This is the same principle that Shaytan utilised to get our parents (Adam & Hawwa) banished from Paradise. {وَقَالَ مَا نَهَىٰكُمَا رَبُّكُمَا عَنۡ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلشَّجَرَةِ إِلَّاۤ أَن تَكُونَا مَلَكَیۡنِ أَوۡ تَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰلِدِینَ} He (Iblees) said, “Your Lord has forbidden this tree to you only to prevent you from becoming angels or immortals.” [Surah Al-A`râf: 20] Means = eating from the forbidden tree End = immortality 'The end justifies the means' Shaytan continues to use this principle to beautify sins & transgression... What makes a practicing brother trim/shave his beard in preparation for a job interview? The end justify the means. Means = shave beard, hide Islamic identity End = get into a well payed job...save money...Hijrah What makes a practicing sister leave off the face veil, apply make-up and reveal her beauty? The end justify the means Means = reveal beauty, look attractive End = get noticed by a brother...get married...perform Hijrah together And the examples are endless... This is one way Shaytan operates; by beautifying sin and transgression and making them look attractive. His other operation method is to prevent us from good deeds by threatening us with poverty. Allah said: {ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ یَعِدُكُمُ ٱلۡفَقۡرَ وَیَأۡمُرُكُم بِٱلۡفَحۡشَاۤءِۖ وَٱللَّهُ یَعِدُكُم مَّغۡفِرَةࣰ مِّنۡهُ وَفَضۡلࣰاۗ وَٱللَّهُ وَ ٰسِعٌ عَلِیمࣱ} “Shaitan threatens you with poverty and orders you to commit Fahsha (evil deeds, sins etc.); whereas Allah promises you Forgiveness from Himself and Bounty, and Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knower.” [Surah Al-Baqarah: 268] Sufyān Ath-Thawrī rahimahullah said: “Shaytān does not have a weapon against mankind similar to fear of poverty. If it is instilled in the heart of a person, he prevents the truth, speaks with desires, and he has bad thoughts of his Lord.” [https://t.me/gemsofthesalaf/383] Truth of the matter is, you don't have to graduate from a free-mixed university to make Hijrah, nor are the lands of Hijrah limited to graduates, so let us not restrict something which Allah has made expansive. Allah said: {وَأَرۡضُ ٱللَّهِ وَ ٰسِعَةٌۗ} “Allah's earth is spacious.” [Surah Az-Zumar: 10] And He said: {أَلَمۡ تَكُنۡ أَرۡضُ ٱللَّهِ وَ ٰسِعَةࣰ فَتُهَاجِرُوا۟ فِیهَاۚ} “Was Allah’s earth not spacious enough for you to emigrate?” [Surah An-Nisâ': 97] Hijra is not confined to the GCC countries! Yes, holding a degree opens up more opportunities, but if this is at the expense of one's Deen, the stakes are too high.
