Reading numbers in Arabic |

THE CORRECT OPINION As a matter of benefit, it passed with us while studying with our Sheikh 'Abdur-Raqeeb Al-Kawkabani, may Allah have mercy on him, that numbers may be read from the right or the left, as both methods are authentically proven. As for reading it from the right, this is supported by the hadith of Ibn 'Umar radhiyallahu 'anhu concerning the three men who were trapped in the cave; it came in the hadith that one of them said: ((فَأَعْطَيْتُهَا عِشْرِينَ وَمِائَةَ دِينَارٍ)) “So I gave her one hundred and twenty Dinars.” [Reported by Bukhari & Muslim] As for reading it from the left, this is proven by the hadith of Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri radhiyallahu 'anhu concerning Allah's command to Adam, peace be upon him, to bring forth the people of the Fire, and it comes in the hadith: ((مِنْ كُلِّ أَلْفٍ تِسْعَمِائَةٍ وَتِسْعَةً وَتِسْعِينَ)) “Out of every thousand (take out) nine hundred and ninety-nine (persons).” [Reported by Bukhari & Muslim] 📲 Transmitted from Abu Yahya Riyadh Al-'Azzaani, then As-Sabri ___ Alhamdulillah this was the opinion that was mentioned during the Madinah Book 2 class (Lesson 24)
