From the etiquettes of seeking permission is to clearly state one's name when asked who it is that is knocking:

«قال جبريل لخازن السماء: افتح. قال: من هذا؟ قال: هذا جبريل». “Jibreel said to the gatekeeper of the heaven: 'Open.' He (the gatekeeper) asked: 'Who is this?' He said: 'This is Jibreel.'” [Bukhari (3887)] قال الحافظ ابن حجر رحمه الله: فيه أدب الاستئذان، أن المستأذن يُسمِّي نفسه لئلَّا يلتبس بغيره.
