To all my Somali brothers & Sisters celebrating Independence day today...'Eid is next week Saturday! Anas ibn Malik radhiyallahu 'anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Medina during two days in which they were celebrating, so he ﷺ enquired: مَا هَذَانِ الْيَوْمَانِ؟ “What are these two days?” They said: كُنَّا نَلْعَبُ فِيهِمَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ “We would celebrate these two days in the time of ignorance.” So the Prophet ﷺ said: ((قدْ أبْدَلكم اللهُ تعالى بهما خيرًا منهما؛ يومَ الفِطرِ والأضحى)) “Verily, Allah has replaced these two days with two better days: Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr.” [Reported by Abu Dawud, An-Nasa'ee, Ahmad; authenticated by Sheikh Albani rahimahullah in his checking of Sunan Abi Dawud (1134)] So what is this day that you are celebrating? Is it something that Allah and His Messenger have given you authority to celebrate? If not, then know that you are disobeying Allah in these blessed days. Sheikh Ibn Baz rahimahullah said: “Among the innovations that people have introduced in our times is Mother’s Day, the 'Eid of so-and-so, the 'Eid of so-and-so, imitating the enemies of Allah. These Celebrations are an imitation of the Jews and Christians; they are the people of Celebrations, but we (Muslims) only have two (annual) Celebrations: 'Eid Al-Adh-ha and 'Eid Al-Fitr...So those who invent Celebrations for which Allah has sent down no authority, they are in reality apposing and going against what Allah and His Messenger have legislated, and they are imitating the enemies of Allah from the Jews and Christians in what they invented of false Celebrations which have no basis in our Religion. They (the Jews & Christians) changed, altered and innovated, so Allah became angry with them, Glory be to Him, the Most High.
