Abu Zur'ah Ar-Razi asked Abu Hatim Ar-Razi, “do you raise your hands in Qunoot?” He said, “No,” So Abu Hatim asked him, “Do you raise your hands?” He said, “Yes,” Abu Hatim then asked, “What is your evidence?” He said, “The hadeeth of Ibn Mas'ud,” Abu Hatim said, “It was transmitted by Layth ibn Abi Sulaim(*),” Abu Zur'ah said, “The hadeeth of Abu Hurairah,” Abu Hatim said, “It was transmitted by ibn Lahee'ah(*),” Abu Zur'ah said, “The hadeeth of Ibn 'Abbas,” Abu Hatim said, “It was transmitted by 'Awf(*),” So Abu Zur'ah asked him, “What is your evidence for not raising your hands?” Abu Hatim said, “The hadeeth of Anas, that the Prophet ﷺ never used to raise his hands for any supplication (inside prayer) aside from the rain prayer.” Upon hearing that Abu Zur'ah became silent.
