Imam An-Nawawi rahimahullah mentions in his explanation of Sahih Muslim, under the Hadith of Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri - من رأى منكم منكرا: ((الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر فرض كفاية إذا قام به بعض الناس سقط الحرج عن الباقين ، وإذا تركه الجميع أثم كل من تمكن منه بلا عذر ولا خوف)) “Enjoining good and forbidding evil is a communal obligation; if some people take on this task, the burden is removed from the rest, but if no one establishes it, those capable of it, (but forsake it) without excuse or fear will all be sinful.” He also said (same reference as above): ((قال العلماء رضي الله عنهم: ولا يسقط عن المكلف الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر لكونه لا يفيد في ظنه بل يجب عليه فعله ، فإن الذكرى تنفع المؤمنين. وقد قدمنا أن الذي عليه الأمر والنهي لا القبول)) “The scholars - may Allāh be pleased with them - have said: The duty of enjoining good and forbidding evil is not waived from the Mukallaf merely because he thinks it will be of no use, but rather he must do so, for the reminder benefits the believers. And we have already illustrated that all that's upon him is to enjoin and forbid - not (to achieve) acceptance.” Based on this, I present to you 8⃣ reasons why you should avoid video recording the Tarawih prayers: 1⃣- Creating images of animate beings is a major sin. 2⃣ This is blessed month in which good deeds are greater in reward. In the same way, evil deeds are also more severe. 3⃣- Having a camera staring at you throughout the prayer will affect your Khushoo' (focus) & Ikhlas (sincerity). Imagine someone respected walks in the room while you are praying, won't you automatically become more alert inside your prayer? Won't you beautify your voice that extra bit? If you don't fight your nafs, this extra alertness & beautification in the presence of this individual could easily turn into Riyaa. So what about standing in prayer knowing full well that you're going to be watched by hundreds, if not thousands of people worldwide. Won't that have any effect on your mindset when you enter the prayer?? 4⃣- Among the first who will be thrown into the Hellfire is a Qari who recited the Qurʿān for people's praise. Are you safe from this? How can you feel safe, when the like of Abu Hurairah radhiyallahu anhu would be so fearful that he would faint merely narrating this hadith: https://sunnah.com/search?q=%D8%AA%D8%B3%D8%B9%D8%B1+%D8%A8%D9%87%D9%85 Also, Ibn Abi Mulaykah rahimahullah said: «أَدْرَكْتُ ثَلاَثِينَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، كُلُّهُمْ يَخَافُ النِّفَاقَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ» “I encountered thirty of the Prophet's Companions, all of whom feared hypocrisy for themselves...” [Reported by Bukhari (Mu'llaqan)] For this reason, Salamah ibn Dinar rahimahullah said: “Hide your good deeds (from the people) just like you hide your evil deeds.” [Abu Nu’aym, Bayhaqee] So if that was them, what about us? Shouldn't our sincerity be called to question? Shouldn't we have greater fear of nifaq for ourselves? Is there really a need to video-record the Tarawih? 5⃣- You are exposing yourself to thousands of eyes, some of which may not wish the best for you, and it only takes one evil eye to 'send a camel cooking' - may Allāh protect us all - 6⃣- How much precious time is then wasted during these blessed nights in editing, creating thumbnails, uploading, etc. 7⃣- You are setting a bad precedent for others to follow
