One Benefit a day (Day 5)

Is one considered a show-off for beautifying their voice when reciting in front of people? Sheikh Uthaymīn, may Allāh have mercy on him, said: On the authority of Abū Mūsā Al-Ash'arī -may Allāh be pleased with him- that: The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said to me, 'If you were to see me, as I was listening to your recitation [of the Qur'ān] last night [you would have been delighted]. You are in fact endowed with a sweet voice like that of [Prophet] Dāwūd himself." I said: O Messenger of Allāh, had I been aware of your presence, I would have beautified it even more. In this is evidence that - if a person beautifies their voice while reciting Qur'ān for others to enjoy and take delight in listening to it, then that is okay, and it is not considered showing off. In fact, this (i.e. beautifying the voice) is what attracts [people] to listen to the Words of Allāh the Almighty, so much so that they find delight in that. 📚 [Sharḥ Riyāḍh Aṣ-Ṣālihīn (4/662)]
