A month of appreciating - not one of wasting
Sheikh Fawzān ḥafidhahullāh said:
Honouring food, appreciating it, staying away from wasting and throwing it away by eating a little and dumping the rest in the bin...large dishes, but only a little is eaten and the rest is thrown in the bin; this is from Kufr-An-Ani'mah (showing ingratitude to Allah's blessings). We ask Allah for wellbeing. This is Kufr-An-Ani'mah, which we fear we may be punished for. The Prophet ﷺ says: “If a morsel of food drops from one of you, let him pick it up, clean away the dirt and eat it.” That's a single morsel, what then of the meals and large dishes that are poured out and thrown into the bin? “Let him eat it.” He ﷺ once saw a piece of date lying in the road, so he took it with his noble hand and said: “Were it not that I fear it being from Zakah, I would have surely eaten it.” Nonetheless, he moved it from the road and did not leave it. Nothing prevented him from eating it except fear of it being from Zakah; as Zakah is forbidden upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad ﷺ. This is from appreciating and honouring (Allah's) blessings, and not wasting it. So let this be a lesson and an admonition for us all!
