BENEFIT 92: Musa عليه السلام was black/brown! Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ((رَأَيْتُ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِي مُوسَى رَجُلًا آدَمَ طُوَالًا جَعْدًا ، كَأَنَّهُ مِنْ رِجَالِ شَنُوءَةَ)) "On the night of my Ascent to the Heaven, I saw Musa who was a tall brown curlyhaired man as if he was one of the men of Shanu'a (a tribe from Yemen whose people are known to be tall)." [Bukhari] In another wording, also reported by Bukhari, he صلى الله عليه وسلم said: ((رَأَيْتُ عِيسَى وَمُوسَى وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ، فَأَمَّا عِيسَى فَأَحْمَرُ جَعْدٌ عَرِيضُ الصَّدْرِ، وَأَمَّا مُوسَى فَآدَمُ جَسِيمٌ سَبْطٌ كَأَنَّهُ مِنْ رِجَالِ الزُّطِّ)). "I saw Musa, 'Isa and Ibrahim (on the night of Ascension). 'Isa was of red complexion, curly hair a broad chested. Musa was of brown complexion, straight hair and tall in stature as if he was from the people of Az-Zutt." Ibn Hajar rahimahullah explained in Fathul bari: "الزط: جنس من السودان، وقيل: هم نوع من الهنود، وهم طوال الأجسام مع نحافة فيها." "Az-Zutt: a race from the blacks, and it was said: they are a type of Indian, they are tall and thin in body." Furthermore, Imām Ṭabari said: "It was mentioned that Musa, peace be upon him, was a brown man (رجلا آدم), so he put his hand in his pocket, then took it out white without any blemish, free from leprosy, like snow, he then put his hand back in, and it returned to its original colour." [Tafṣīr at-Ṭabārī - Surah Tahaa: 22] This was among the signs given to Musa!
