BENEFIT 84: Virtues of performing voluntary acts of worship
After careful studies of the Islamic texts, the scholars have cited some wisdoms for the legislation of voluntary acts of worship. Sheikh Abu Bilal hafidhahullah cited some of them while explaining Buloogh Al-Maram.
I have jotted them down along with some additions:
1. Voluntary deeds draw a person closer to Allah
2. Allah protects a person by way of them
3. They are a means to attain Allah's love
4. By way of them Allah grants a person success to use their limbs for good
The proof for the above 4 is the following hadeeth ⤵️

5. They erase one's sins, as Allah said:
{...إِنَّ ٱلۡحَسَنَـٰتِ یُذۡهِبۡنَ ٱلسَّیِّـَٔاتِۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ ذِكۡرَىٰ لِلذَّ ٰكِرِینَ}
"Surely good deeds wipe out evil deeds. That is a reminder for the mindful."
[Surah Hûd: 114]
6. They make a person's scale of good deeds heavy on the day of judgement; which is a means to attain success, as Allah said:
{ فَمَن ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَ ٰزِینُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ}
"Those whose good deeds weigh heavy will be successful."
[Surah Al-Mu’minûn: 102]
7. They prepare a person before undertaking obligatory deeds. An example of that is the two voluntary units prior to Fajr Salah.
8. They make up/ compensate for any shortfalls in the obligatory acts; see hadeeth ⤵️

9. You are following & implementing the Prophet’s Sunnah
10. Allah will bless you with an easy life, as He the Almighty said:
{ مَنۡ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوۡ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤۡمِنࣱ فَلَنُحۡیِیَنَّهُۥ حَیَوٰةࣰ طَیِّبَةࣰۖ وَلَنَجۡزِیَنَّهُمۡ أَجۡرَهُم بِأَحۡسَنِ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ }
"Whoever does good, whether male or female, and is a believer, We will surely bless them with a good life, and We will certainly reward them according to the best of their deeds."
[Surah An-Nahl: 97]
