'UMRAH SUMMARISED _ STEP 1 - ENTER INTO IHRAAM (this is the 1st pillar of 'Umrah) * Ihraam is a spiritual state a person enters prior to performing 'Umrah & Hajj. Two important issues related to Ihraam: The first- you must enter into Ihraam before crossing the Meeqaat (the designated points set by the Prophet ﷺ) The second- once in the state of Ihraam, there are 10 prohibitions which must be avoided: [1. removing hair from head or body, 2. Applying perfume on body or clothing, 3. Wearing fitted clothing like shorts, trousers, thawbs (men specifically), 4. Wearing a head covering (men specifically), 5. Clipping nails, 6. Wearing gloves or a face covering (women specifically), 7. Proposing, marrying or overseeing another person's marriage, 8. Intercourse, 9. Fondling, 10. Hunting land-game] It's recommended to perform the following acts prior to entering into the state of Ihraam: 1- clip nails, pluck armpit hairs and shave pubic hairs 2- take a shower 3- apply perfume on the head and parts of the body, making sure not to get any perfume on your Ihraam clothes 4- you should enter into Ihraam after an obligatory or voluntary prayer * Once you have taken off your normal clothing and put on your Ihraam clothes (this is only for men - women wear their normal clothing), you are now ready to enter into the state of Ihraam. It is recommended to perform the following (sunans): a: board your riding beast / take a seat on the bus/ aeroplane. b: once seated, face the qibla and say: ((الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ)) "All praise belongs to Allaah, How perfect He is, and Allaah is the greatest." c: then say: ((لَبَّيْكَ عُمْرَةً)) "Here I am (O Allaah) at your service for Umrah" d: then begin saying the talbiyyah out loud until you reach Makkah and begin Tawaaf. * The prophetic talbiyyah is to say: ((لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ لَبَّيْكَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَكَ)) "I respond to Your call O Allah! I respond to Your call. You have no partner. I respond to Your call. All praise, thanks and blessings are for You. All sovereignty is for You. And You have no partners with You." ____ STEP TWO - PERFORM TAWAAF (this is the 2nd pillar of 'Umrah) * Tawaaf is to circumbulate the Ka'bah 7 times. Remember the following: - Each round begins and ends at the black stone - You must have wudhu throughout your Tawaaf. If you break your wudhu, you must stop, perform wudhu & then continue from where you left off. The same applies if, while you are doing Tawaaf, you have to stop for any other valid reason, such as to offer an obligatory prayer. Sunans to implement when performing Tawaaf: 1- before you begin Tawaaf, you should expose your right arm throughout the Tawaaf (idhtibaa'). This applies to males only! 2- At the start of each circuit, you should do istilaam of the black stone. There are 4 ways to do istilaam: a- kiss the black stone directly. If that's not possible: b- touch the black stone with your hand then kiss your hand. If that's not possible: c- touch the black stone using a stick then kiss the stick. If that's not possible: d- raise your hand as though giving Salam and say: ((الله أكبر)) "Allah is the greatest" NOTE: You must not hurt others to implement this or any other sunan❗️
