BENEFIT 67: THE FIRST CREATION
‘Imrān ibn Hussein radhiyallāhu 'anhu narrated that some people from Yemen asked the Prophet ﷺ about how the matter was from the very beginning. He said: “There was Allāh and nothing existed before Him, and His Throne was on the water. Then He created the heavens and the earth, and He wrote all things in Al-Lawḥ al-Maḥfūdh.”

Shaykh ‘Uthaymīn raḥimahullāh said:
“The first thing that Allāh created of the things that are known to us was the 'Arsh, and He rose over it (in a manner befitting His Majesty) after He had created the heavens, as Allāh, may He be exalted, says:
{وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ فِی سِتَّةِ أَیَّامࣲ وَكَانَ عَرۡشُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلۡمَاۤءِ لِیَبۡلُوَكُمۡ أَیُّكُمۡ أَحۡسَنُ عَمَلࣰاۗ...}
“He is the One Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days—and His Throne was upon the waters—in order to test which of you is best in deeds.” [Sūrah Hūd 7]
