BENEFIT 51: SWEARING BY ALLĀH'S LIFE, OR ANY OTHER ATTRIBUTE OF HIS Sheikh 'Uthaymīn raḥimahullāh said: “There is no problem if a person bears oath, saying: “by Allāh's Life;” because oath is borne by Allāh, Glory be to Him, or any of His Names, just as it is borne by His Attributes; such as (His) Life, Knowledge, Glory, Power, and the like.” 📕[Majmū' Fatāwa Ibn 'Uthaymeen (2 /219-220)] Imām Al-Bukhari raḥimahullāh has a chapter in his Sahih, entitled: 'Chapter on swearing by the Glory of Allāh, His Attributes, and His words. Ibn 'Abbās radhiyallāhu 'anhu said: The Prophet ﷺ used to say: ((أعوذ بعزتك)) “I seek refuge in Your Glory.” Abū Hurairah narrated on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, that: “A man will remain between Paradise and Hell and he will say: ‘O Lord, turn my face away from the Fire and by Your glory I will not ask You for anything else.” Abū Sa'eed raḍhiyallāhu 'anhu said, the Prophet ﷺ said: “Allāh said: You have that, and ten times its like. (Prophet) Ayyūb, peace be upon him, said: “By your Glory, your blessing is indispensable to me.” end of quote Similarly, Imām Al-Bayhaqi stated in As-Sunan Al-Kubrā: chapter on swearing by the Attributes of Allāh the Almighty: such as (His) Honor, Power, Majesty, Pride, Greatness, Speech, Hearing, and so on. Then he cited an Athar on the authority of Ibn 'Umar radhiyallāhu 'anhu that he was asked about wine, so he said: “No, by Allāh's Hearing the Almighty, it is not permissible to sell, nor buy it.”
