BENEFIT 44: AL-QAWĀ'ID AL-ḤISĀN FĪ TAFSĪRIL QURʿĀN After completing Ash-Shinqīṭī's monumental work, 'Daf' Īhām Al-Idhṭirāb', Sheikh Abū Bilāl ḥafidhahullāh began reading through Al-Qawā'id Al-Ḥisān; the priceless booklet of Sheikh 'Abdurrahmān As-Sa'di raḥimahullāh. Hereunder is a brief summary of some of the benefits taken from that first lesson: 1. This book (Al-Qawā'id Al-Ḥisān) contains 72 principles related to At-Tafsīr (Qur'ānic exegesis) 2. It's important to give attention to understanding the principles of any science, because: - principles gather a great deal of knowledge under a few concise words - understanding the principles of a science is a very efficient way to master that science - principles help prevent and remove misunderstandings, especially if one has grasped them well 3. The best print of this book -in terms of accuracy- is the print of Khālid As-Sabt (may Allāh guide him). 4. The author is Abū 'Abdillāh 'Abdurraḥmān Ibn Nāṣir ibn 'Abdillāh ibn Nāṣir As-Sa'di, or As-Si'di - both are correct; Sheikh Abū Bilāl mentioned, if you intend the original tribe (Banū Sa'd), then As-Sa'di is the correct ascription, but if you intend the common day usage, then it's more correct to say As-Si'di (with a Kasrah on the Seen) as found in some of the author's own works. 5. The author raḥimahullāh is among the great scholars of our era. He is an Imām in various fields, including Tafsīr and Fiqh; thanks to his hard work and dedication - after the Tawfeeq of Allāh of course. 6. He authored this book during the blessed month of Ramaḍhān; it took him from the start of the month till the 6 days of Shawwāl to complete, and it's as though he extracted these principles while reflecting over the Qurʿān. This on its own is an example of his hard work and dedication.
