BENEFIT 43: WHAT HAPPENS TO MY WEALTH AFTER MY DEATH?
Once a person dies, their wealth goes towards fulfilling the following five rights - in the order mentioned below:
1. (ุชู) ุชูุฌููููุฒู ุงููู
ููููุชู
Preparing the body; this includes covering the costs for washing the body, shrouds, digging the grave and in some cases, buying the land on which the grave sits.
2. (ุฏู) ุฏููููู ู
ุชุนููุฉ ุจุนูู ุงูุชุฑูุฉ
3. (") ุฏููููู ู
ุชุนููุฉ ุจุงูุชุฑูุฉ
Paying off debts; the difference between 2 & 3 is that number 2 relates to debts connected to the actual wealth (eg. pawned jewellery), whereas 3 is more general; it includes debts owned to others or rights owed to Allฤh, such as unfulfilled vows, fasts, hajj & 'Umrah, etc.
4. (ู) ููุตููููุฉู
Carrying out the Will; the Will must not exceed 1/3 and it must not include any inheritor (except with the approval of the remaining inheritors).
5. (ู
ู) ู
ููุฑูุงุซู
Inheritance; once the previous 4 steps have been fulfilled, the remaining wealth is shared out between the inheritors according to the Islamic laws of inheritance.
NOTE:
The easiest way to recall the above five rights is to memorise this simple acronym:
ุชูุฏููู
ู = (lasting)
