EXPLANATION OF THE LĀMIYYAH OF IBN TAYMIYYAH (https://t.me/madrasatuna) LINE 5: Shaykhul Islām ibn Taymiyyah, may Allāh have mercy on him,: وَأَقُـولُ فِـي الْـقُـرْآنِ مَـا جَـاءَتْ بِـهِ And I say concerning the Qur'ān (only) that which is mentioned آيَـاتُـهُ فَـهُـوَ الْـكَـرِيـمُ الْـمُـنْـزَلُ ...in it's verses, for it is the Noble Revelation 1. In this line, the author outlines the 'Aqīdah of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamā'ah with regards to the Qur'ān. BELIEF 5: ᴛʜᴇ ϙᴜʀ'ᴀ̄ɴ ɪs ᴛʜᴇ sᴘᴇᴇᴄʜ ᴏғ ᴀʟʟᴀ̄ʜ. ɪᴛ ᴡᴀs sᴇɴᴛ ᴅᴏᴡɴ ᴀɴᴅ ɴᴏᴛ ᴄʀᴇᴀᴛᴇᴅ. ғʀᴏᴍ ʜɪᴍ ɪᴛ ʙᴇɢᴀɴ ᴀɴᴅ ᴛᴏ ʜɪᴍ ɪᴛ sʜᴀʟʟ ʀᴇᴛᴜʀɴ 2. Let us now clarify this Belief point-by-point: 2.1. 'The Qur'ān is the speech of Allāh' (1) Allāh ﷻ said: {وَإِنْ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ اسْتَجَارَكَ فَأَجِرْهُ حَتَّىٰ يَسْمَعَ كَلَامَ اللهِ} "And if anyone from the polytheists asks for your protection ˹O Prophet˺, grant it to them so they may hear the Words of Allāh (i.e. The Qur’ān)." [Sūrat At-Tawbah 6] (2) Jābir ibn 'Abdillāh, may Allāh be pleased with him, narrated: The prophet ﷺ used to offer himself to the people, saying: ((ألا رجل يحملني إلى قومه، فإن قريشا منعوني أن أبلغ كلام ربي عز وجل)) "Is there any man who can take me to his people (so I may convey the Speech of my Lord), for Quraish have prevented me from conveying the speech of my Lord (i.e. The Qur'ān)." [Abū Dāwūd & others; graded 'Ṣaḥīḥ' by Shaykh Albāni] 2.2. 'It was sent down' (1) Allāh ﷻ said: {إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ} "Indeed, ˹It is˺ We ˹Who˺ sent this ˹Qurān˺ down on the Night of Decree (Laylatul Qadr)." [Sūrat Al-Qadr 1] (2) It is narrated on the authority of 'Abdullāh Ibn Abī Awfā that the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) cursed the confederates and said: ((اللَّهُمَّ مُنْزِلَ الْكِتَابِ سَرِيعَ الْحِسَابِ اهْزِمِ الأَحْزَابَ اللَّهُمَّ اهْزِمْهُمْ وَزَلْزِلْهُمْ)) "O Allāh, Revealer of the Book, swift in (taking) account, put the tribes to rout. O Lord, defeat them and shake them." [Bukhāri & Muslim] 2.3. 'It is not created' (1) Allāh ﷻ said: {أَلَا لَهُ الْخَلْقُ وَالْأَمْرُ} "The creation and the command belong to Him ˹alone˺." [Sūrat Al-A'rāf 54] In this Āyah Allāh makes a clear distinction between His creation and His commandment; and the Qur'ān is not part of the creation because Allāh ﷻ said: {وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ رُوحًا مِنْ أَمْرِنَا} "And thus We have sent to you (O Muḥammad ﷺ) an Inspiration (i.e. The Qur'ān) of Our Command." [Sūrat Ash-Shūrā 52] (2) Similarly, in the ḥadīth of Khawlah bint Ḥakīm in Muslim, the prophet ﷺ said: ((من نزَل منزِلا فقال: أعوذ بكلمات الله التامّات من شر ما خلق، لم يضره شيء حتى يَرحَل من منزله ذلك)) "Whoever alights somewhere and says: 'I seek refuge with the Perfect Words of Allāh from the evil of what He has created,' nothing will harm him until he leaves that place." The Qur'ān is included in the 'Words of Allāh' because it is the speech of Allāh. So, this ḥadīth clearly proves that the Qur'ān is not created, because if it was created, it would not be permissible to seek refuge with it; as seeking refuge with the creation is a form of Shirk. 2.4. 'From Him it began', Meaning the Qur'ān actually began from Allāh ﷻ; He is the One who spoke with it, so it did not begin from anyone or anywhere else, just as Allāh ﷻ said: {تَنزِیلُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ لَا رَیۡبَ فِیهِ مِن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ} "The revelation of this Book is—beyond doubt—from the Lord of all worlds." [Sūrat As-Sajdah 2] However, we do not know how exactly this was. 2.5. 'And to Him it shall return', Meaning it will be raised to Allāh near the end of time, such that there will not remain even an Āyah from it in people's hearts, nor any letters in the Mus-hafs. 3. Amr ibn Dīnār [D. 126H] said: "I met the people for the past 70 years all saying: الله الخالق، وما سوى الله مخلوق إلا القرآن، فإنه كلام الله غير مخلوق، منه بدأ وإليه يعود. "Everything besides Allāh is created, except the Qur'ān; for it is the speech of Allāh and not created, from Him it began and to Him it shall return."
