BENEFIT 42: TWO TYPES OF QUESTION THAT YOU SHOULD NEVER ASK❗️ Our teacher Abū Zur'ah Aṣ-Ṣomāli ḥafidhahullāh mentioned in one of the classes explaining Lum'atul I'tiqaad, that: “There are two types of questions that a Muslim should never ask: 1⃣. In relation to the Divine Names and Attributes, he should never say, How (1)❓ How are Allāh's eyes? How did Allah speak to Mūsā? How does Allāh descend every night? And 2⃣. In relation to the Divine predecree (Qadar), he should never say, WHY (2)❓ Why is she prettier than me? Why is he more knowledgeable? Why do they have more children? ----------------------------------------- *(1) A man came to Imām Mālik and said: “Oh Abū ‘Abdullāh! [Allāh said]: {ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ عَلَى ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱسۡتَوَىٰ} ‘Ar-Raḥmān ‘alal ‘arshi-stawa.’ [Sūrah Ṭā-Hā 5] How did He 'istawā'?” He responded: “(The meaning of) Al-Istiwā' is known, but the ‘how’ is unknown. To have īmān in it is obligatory and to question it is an innovation.” Then he said to the questioner: “I do not think, except that you are an evil man,” and he ordered him to be expelled. [Transmitted by Al-Lalakā'ī in Sharḥ Uṣūl Al-I'tiqādi Ahlis-Sunnah wal Jamā'ah (1/24)] *(2) That is because Allāh The Most High said: {لَا یُسۡـَٔلُ عَمَّا یَفۡعَلُ وَهُمۡ یُسۡـَٔلُونَ} “He is not questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned.” [Sūrah Al-Anbiyā' 23]
